Pair a red midi or maxi dress with your favorite military jacket featuring a smart double breasted or a casual patchwork design. Add heels and a tiny clutch as finishing touches. This outfit can work for any event from brunch meetings to afterparties.

Here at the Deco Haus, we’re all incredibly inspired by the glamorous “Golden Age” of Hollywood film and fashion. Lights, Camera, Action! It’s what this beautiful city is known for. So, given that it’s summer and time to travel, we figured we’d show you some of our favorite Hollywood hot-spots....if traveling to L.A is on your summer bucket list! Whether you want to learn a little bit more about Hollywood history or just want to have a good time, these fun tourist attractions are our picks for any film and fashion lover.
Hollywood Heritage Museum:
First off on our list is obviously the Hollywood Heritage Museum. Being a museum, it’s typically more interesting for someone who enjoys learning about history. However, its charming vintage facade and historic memorabilia appeal to almost everyone. The museum features archival photographs from the silent era of motion pictures, movie props, historic documents and other movie related memorabilia. They even show silent movies every once in a while! Be warned however, it’s only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 - 4:00, so plan your visit accordingly.
Website: http://www.hollywoodheritage.org/
Address: 2100 North Highland Avenue, Hollywood, CA
Grauman's Chinese Theater:
Second on our list is the Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Its outstanding architecture makes it an incredible place to visit for any eager sight-seer...from film lovers to history nerds. Whether you want to see the latest hit movie, take a tour, or even just walk around and enjoy the beauty, this theater has it all! If you happen to go, be sure not to miss the famous hand and footprints that the Chinese Theater is known for! From Marilyn Monroe to George Clooney; they’ve made their mark both on the camera and in the cement! If you end up in L.A this summer, this is a definite must-see for absolutely everyone.
Website: http://www.tclchinesetheatres.com/
Address: 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028
FIDM Museum:
Another great place for deco lovers to visit is FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). They have an amazing 10,000 piece costume collection, featuring clothing from the late 19th century to the present day, including theater and film costume. You can take a tour of the campus and possibly see the Academy Award winning costume of the year! Our owner and founder Jill even took classes there when she first came to L.A. It’s definitely an important place to visit for anybody with a passion for fashion!
Website: http://fidm.edu/
Address: 919 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90015-1421
Paramount Studios:
Lastly, we suggest taking a tour of Paramount Studios. Founded on May 8th, 1912, this is a MUST-SEE for almost any person traveling to Hollywood. In fact, it is the last major film studio headquartered in the Hollywood district. Because it’s a working studio, each tour is a different experience. You can see Paramount’s private movie theater, Lucy Park, Paramount’s backlot, Forrest Gump’s bench, Bronson Gate, sound stages, and actual sets (if they’re not being used), and maybe even a star or two! It is definitely worth your time to visit Paramount, especially for any aspiring film-maker or someone interested in some good old film history.
Website: http://www.paramountstudios.com/
Address: 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, CA 90038
Finish your visit off with some shopping and lunch on Rodeo Drive, and your Deco-inspired tour of Los Angeles is complete! If you do happen to visit any of these places while you’re in L.A, make sure to tag us on Instagram. We’d love to hear about it!
Until next time...

Every month, the Deco Haus staff likes to put the spotlight on a famous fashion icon that has inspired our designs, from famous models to world-renowned fashion illustrators. This month, we have chosen the famous Italian illustrator René Gruau, a man whose illustrations for designers such as Dior and Vogue gained him immense fame in the mid-1900's.
EARLY LIFE
Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate, also known as René Gruau, was the son of French aristocrat Maria Gruau and Italian count Alessandro. He was born in Rimini, Italy, on February 4th, 1909. He was expected to follow in his fathers footsteps and become an Italian diplomat and royal military commander. However, when his parents separated when he was 3 years old, he followed his artistically inclined mother to Paris, and his love for fashion and art grew. As a child, his mother introduced him to painters and fashion magazine editors who encouraged him to pursue his craft. Then, at 15, thanks to his mother, her friends and his own talent, Rene Gruau already had a promising career as a fashion illustrator awaiting him.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Gruau became particularly popular after WWII, working with designers such as Balmain, Givenchy, Schiaparelli, Jacques Fath and Edward Molyneux, and also for suppliers of top-quality textiles, cars and brandy. However, it was his collaboration with Christian Dior that gained him the majority of his fame and solidified his reputation. Starting with the the iconic Miss Dior fashion campaign in 1947, he worked as the artistic director of advertising for the House of Dior up until the late 1990's. As well as working with Dior, he worked with other designers such as Givenchy and Lanvin, and high class music-halls such as the Moulin Rouge and the Lido. He even moved to the U.S in 1948 to work with Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Aside from being an illustrator and a poster artist, he also sold paintings, designed costumes and stage sets, created a poster design of Federico Fellini’s cinema classic La Dolce Vita (1959), and even created his own collection of clothing in 1948-49.
INFLUENCE
His vibrant colors and his ability to depict a story through his drawings made him one of the greatest illustrators in the elegant world of haute couture. He was able to use simple colors and a minimal amount of brushstrokes to convey controversial ideas and emotions, thus becoming one of the most loved and talked-about artists of his time. He continued his craft up until March 31, 2004, when he passed away at the ripe age of 95 in Rome, Italy.

As amazing as summer may be, it also brings the inevitable onslaught of wedding invites, summer garden parties and drinks on the lawn. Ugh, WHAT TO WEAR?? I mean, throwing on a pair of shorts (and a little tee) and sitting out in the back yard drinking a few cold ones is one thing… but dressing up in the summer! Eeeks…that's a tough cookie to crumble.
But have no fear ladies, Deco Haus is on the job! If you have a summer event coming up and are at a loss for ideas, then look no further than thedecohaus.com to solve all your fashion emergencies. All you need to do is visit their Instagram site (@thedecohaus) and check out some of their beautiful photo shoots. Your inspirational juices will start flowing in no time! Once you have picked your favorite images, visit their site to find your dress (plus accessories…the key to taking a simple vintage look to an entirely new level) and then checkout! All that’s left for you to do is wait for your cute little pink box to arrive in the mail.
If only all things in life were this easy… *sigh*
Here are a few suggestions of my own…
The Socialite Gown…the perfect dress for a wedding guest…
Just gorgeous and such an original look to wear to a day out. You’ll definitely turn a lot of heads with this beautiful dress, and because it is so loose fitting and unrestrictive you can party the night away without having to worry about looking good!
I also love the Deco 54 Gown. This shot is from thedecohaus.com Paris fashion shoot.
So elegant, so stand out beautiful. It’s another original dress that’ll make you feel like the belle of the ball! These dresses are keepers, treasures to be handed down to your little princess in years to come. A truly wonderful addition to any style savvy lady’s closet!
In case this isn’t exactly your cup of tea, you could go for a total different look altogether while still keeping the vintage style alive! A wise choice would be to choose a trouser/top combo look. Add in the gorgeous ostrich wrap from thedecohaus.com and this look is nailed.
I love this…just divine.
Admiring glances are coming your way!
So girls, think outside the box this summer for your looks and take a peek on thedecohaus.com

]]>Don’t forget, the decade of dancing, fun and oodles of champagne is fast approaching it’s 100 year anniversary! Stock up now at the Deco Haus on some fabulous vintage pieces and be closet-ready for all those extravagant parties to come.
I mean just look at some of the gorgeous creations adorning the runways of top designers …
Let’s start with my favorite…the unrivaled Gucci.
Woooowee…this is doing what Gucci does best by taking the past rockingly into the future. Pick up a similar beautiful cocktail dress at the Deco Haus, slick back your hair, spend a LOT of time on your eye makeup, and you are there!
Or....try the Marchesa look and go all feathery and girly. Loving the cape/bolero effect!
Gorgeous.
Vera Wang also jumped on this lovely bandwagon…
Going for a more dramatic look with long leather gloves? Very decadent...perfect for any Great Gatsby party that you are invited to. The 1920s is all about looking as glamorous as possible while still maintaining a demure edge. Hard to do, but wondrous when you pull it off to perfection, just like Vera did here.
Roberto Cavalli gives his two cents next.
The accessories are really the main feature here! The bag is outstanding and the necklace works perfectly with the neckline. Think before you dress ladies, that’s the key…you have a treasure trove to choose from at the Deco Haus, it’s just a case of putting it all together in the right way. You can do it and have lots of fun while you are at it! Place a beautiful adornment in your hair though…the girls back in the day were ALL about that!
And a feather boa! Thank YOU Ralph Lauren…
SUCH an amazing way to dress!
Even celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon. Our favorite look for makeup and hair is this style chosen by Katy Perry.
See…put something pretty on your head…works wonders! And pearls are a good choice I must say. But the ultimate inspiration...before you head over to Deco Haus and shop til you drop…is the modern version of the ultimate 1920’s go-to girl. Daisy Buchanan, deliciously done by Carey Mulligan.
Perfect!
]]>Here at Deco Haus, we're all about celebrating the original! We love how vintage fashion makes us girls stand out from the fashion crowd and exude individual style. These days, in a world of mass produced clothing, it can be very easy to fall into the trap of buying clothes at discounted prices just because they are ‘bargains’.
However, then you fall on a double-edged sword, if you will! First, EVERYONE has the same clothes…you end up looking a like a fashion victim and some sort of uninspired clone :( Secondly your closet fills up with poorly made merchandise that loses it's appeal after the first wash.
Not good.
Now, I know times can be tight and some trendy stores do amazing copies of what stops us in our tracks on the runway. But keep in mind ladies, it is not the real deal, it is simply just that…a copy. Shiver…who on earth with their fashion head held high wants to be known as a copycat…no way!
Vintage style is where it’s at, and no one does it better than Deco Haus. Beautiful, original and most importantly one-of-a-kind pieces that will transport your wardrobe from the everyday to the sublime! So come on in and take a look at just some of the works of art that are ready for you to snap up right now…
Here are three of the best.
The Brigitte Dress.
Gorgeous for those lazy summer days. Plus there is nothing to stop you from mixing old and new. This would look so cute topped with a denim jacket!
The Beaded Evening Purse.
Truly amazing, and so much better than some of the clutches that you will find in some of the high end shops. This purse just screams style queen.
The Peacock Burnout Velvet Beaded Evening Wrap.
Throw this beauty on over a vest and a pair of skinny jeans and you've taken the Saturday look to a whole new level, girls…
You see what we mean? Fashion is fun and should scream out your individuality. Mixing the old with the new will give your looks a cutting edge and let you make a fashion mark amongst your peers. Deco Stylists are here at The Deco Haus to help you achieve that very goal! Don’t get lost in the herd fashionistas, lead the pack!!
Happy shopping…
]]>During their humble beginnings, the shop's initial gimmick was that whichever Biba piece seen on the TV show “Ready, Steady, Go” each Friday night could be bought in the store and worn the next Saturday. This attracted fashionistas near and far to snatch up those up-to-date looks. This made the logo more recognizable and made more people want to wear it…a dream for any fashion label! In 1973, Biba hit the big time and moved into a 7-story store in London’s High Street.
In the new store, each floor had a different theme. There was a children’s floor (for the rock-n-roll kids), one for men, books, food and home. EVERYTHING you needed, in fact! The store became a go-to spot for anyone who loved decadence and shopping indulgence. It became known as the ‘theatre for fashion’...which is why it was the inspiration for Deco Haus. Fashion should be theatrical and a celebration and these two brands did and do exactly that!
Oh look above at the absolute FABULOUSNESS of it all. David Bowie even shot some videos in there; it was almost like a Studio 54 shop. It must have been wonderful to enter its doors. It even had a life-size turntable!
Biba was full of innovation and clever ideas. It was, for example the first store that allowed shoppers to try on makeup before they bought it, turning shopping into a whole different experience. It gave Saturday girls something to do each weekend! The shop became a fun destination and hangout for many a wanderer. It even had its own label on dozens of items in the shop.
Sadly the Biba star fell almost as quickly as it rose...the store closed down soon thereafter. However, the Biba brand still lives on, churning out extravagant and elegant pieces, using the beautiful and eclectic muse Daisy Lowe. You can find the brand in House of Fraser. BUT, you can also just click onto thedecohaus.com and find many exclusive and unique pieces inspired by the heyday of the early 70’s. Fashion should be aspirational and fun and thedecohaus.com has that in spades thanks to the influence of Biba.

Today I want to talk about some of the beautiful evening jackets and wraps that can be found on thedecohaus.com. We're still very much in the middle of the winter season and so, jackets are essential.....
]]>Let’s get the ball rolling with this fantastic black velvet number straight from the 1920s.
The 1920's Black Velvet Metallic Thread Peacock Smoking Jacket
OOOOOH, I want this! Very cool and VERY funky. It simply screams…’I am a fashion goddess, stand back.” There's gorgeous embroidered detail in metallic gold thread accompanied by delicate gold beads. This smoking jacket would look equally chic with either a white tee and jeans or a fabulous gold or black evening dress. It’s so unique and stand out. Adore.
However, if a bolero is more your thing, we’ve got you er….covered…there too! My choice is this amazing Oriental inspired piece, called the Art Deco Velvet Burnout Bolero.
The Art Deco Velvet Burnout Bolero Smoking Jacket - Japanese Garden
The base color here is mocha brown. It's super rich and indulgent, so it could definitely become more of a nighttime favorite. It has an open front and 3/4 sleeves...simply perfect for those special nights out.
Last, but certainly not least, is the third pick from the DH studio …the lounging robe. Did you ever hear of such decadence in your life? How wonderful…a LOUNGING ROBE. Marvelous idea.
The 1920's Silk Embroidered Piano Lounging Robe - Black
THIS IS THE MONEY SHOT. Picture yourself hanging out at home on a Friday evening with a cocktail, awaiting a guest…perfection. It’s 100% silk (to add to the indulgence) and is intricately hand embroidered. It also has the added feature of silky fringe down the front, on the hem and under the arms. You savvy ladies already know that fringe is big on the fashion front, so this piece is definitely hot on the trend list.
Just sensational. Plenty more where these bad boys came from, so take a look on the site and find the perfect one for you. I am already planning my extravagant night in.....or out!
emmaisthenewblack.com
]]>Today it is my fashion duty to draw your attention to the limited edition 1920s style necklaces available right now on thedecohaus.com! These are absolute works of art and believe me, you need to whip these bad boys up right now before they are just a fading memory......
]]>This first one is the George Barbier Flapper Necklace
Beautiful, look at those amazing colors. What I love most is that is it just one of a kind, so unusual. I love how fashion can be a talking point and this is one piece of jewelry bound to get people talking! Admirers will flock to stare in admiration at your obvious style savviness! The illustration is so intricate and detailed, a wonderful nod to our favorite vintage era…
Second up, an iconic image of actress Gloria Swanson by Henry Clive.
This is the perfect salute to the doyenne of the 1920’s. Absolutely stunning.
The best news is that each of the necklaces is quite different in their shading and color tone. If you pick up both, you can be guaranteed either one will work no matter what you are wearing. Now, I am a big, BIG fan of layering up necklaces and wearing short pieces with long pieces….more just being more! Just like these pretty ladies below…
It’s such a cool technique using jewelry to help us girls really show off our personalities. You have the freedom to combine different quantities and styles of necklaces in any way desired.
The two beautiful and exclusive pendants from thedecohaus.com fit perfectly into this adornment regime with ease. In fact, my suggestion is to use them as your starting point because they really are the standout pieces. Then add on more subtle necklaces to create your own layered effect.
The best bit about necklace layering? If you are anything like me and are a bit of a collector…this way of wearing your jewelry means that all those chains you have on your dressing table get a chance of being worn!…Oh and the second best bit…? Well, it’s that I give you full permission to pick up BOTH of these gorgeous pendants right now on thedecohaus.com and add them into your new tiered approach to necklace styling! Remember though, they are limited editions…the time to shop is now!
]]>
This piece of loveliness is from the house of Alexander McQueen and it’s truly beautiful. Absolute fashion indulgence and bound to get you noticed the minute you walk into the room…which is kinda the whole point of dressing up, right?
Also Ralph Lauren has gotten in on the act…
Total elegance coupled with edgy couture greatness…this is how to wear a headpiece. It’s almost reminiscent of the heady days (geddit) of Hedy Lamarr…
Stunning. But have a look at this street style picture to illustrate how you can drag this style idea into the 21st century…
Nicely done. Bet I’ve got your attention now! This is a sweet look and will give you the fashion kudos amongst your friends and peers that we all crave. With just one addition to what you are wearing before you leave the house! Easy street girls, E A S Y.
So, where do you start…well that is easy too, just click onto thedecohaus.com and visit their headpieces page and take your pick. There is a plethora of beauties there to choose from, but to get you on your merry way I will highlight some absolute crackers…
Pay attention now…
Okay, first up, let’s go for a turban, just because I feel this is the best way to dip your toe in the headpiece world and see if it’s for you. I really like this gold lamé one, which is simply gorgeous and screams sophistication, giving the wearer major style points.
Or add in a gemmed feature to up the ante even more…a nighttime turban….
Amazing, worn perhaps with a long black or silver dress…total showstopper. There are quite a few variations of this style on site, so you are bound to find one that takes your fancy. Or buy them all and start up a collection!
You could also complete your evening look with one of these intricate and stunning headbands…
Wow, they make you just want to organize a Gatsby Themed party and go for it, don’t they?…The ostrich feather art deco headband is so feminine and would be perfect for a wedding headdress….making the wearer a seriously stylish bride.
The crystal deco flapper marquise band above is my personal favorite from thedecohaous.com, just because it is so unusual and detailed. A fabulous piece of kit to add to any closet.
So, come and join the big league, the fashion world has spoken and it has said…’Headpieces!’

]]>Okay so let’s face it, we are slap bang in the middle of awards season, which, as a fashion writer, you can appreciate, is my absolute favorite time of year. Oh yes!…forget Christmas…THIS is the most wonderful time of the year.....
]]>Now, I know the Big Kahuna…i.e. The OSCARS is yet to come, but the Golden Globes is a pretty good warm up and this year did not disappoint, specifically Emma Stone in her vintage inspired show stopper by Valentino. This is so elegant and decadent all at the same time…
Beautiful, old style, Hollywood glamour. You can emulate this style my friends, just look at some of the choices on thedecohaus.com to create your very own La La Land look…
Sequins and beading and bows…oh my! Gorgeous stuff and bound to turn many a head when you walk into the room. These are all available on thedecohaus.com and coming in at a fraction of the cost of Ms. Stones’ number, I’ll guarantee you!
Another hot shot that caught my eye on the red carpet was Drew Barrymore is this floaty, dreamy, dress by Monica Lhuiller.
I mean, this is how to do awards night…am I right? She looks amazing and even though she is showing very little flesh, the sexiness just oozes out. The perfect take on vintage glamour, they really knew how to wear dresses back then. Here’s a few more on thedecohaus.com to choose from for your next big night out…
Dark green up first, you can NEVER go wrong wearing dark green, in my opinion, always in style and the addition of gold and silver sequins to the top of the dress is a marvelous combination. Flapper-tastic!
And finally, let's save the best for last, this beautiful teal green peacock inspired piece of fashion genius is simply breathtaking. Imagine how pretty and girlie you would feel wearing this, exactly the feeling a dressed up…er…dress! is supposed to give the wearer. It’s just stunning and so unusual.
So you see, even though you may not have the bulging bank accounts of some of our current Hollywood legends you can still give them a run for their money by choosing thedecohaus.com for your looks and win your own fashion award!
Til next time…

]]>Looks like ALL the fun, right? What a time to be alive. But…I digress…back to the (fashion) point, the jewellery:
Especially cocktail rings.
I LOVE THESE.
Get yourself an unusual, bejewelled, eye-catching cocktail ring and you can bring any mundane, everyday outfit up a level, while giving yourself instant street cred. Not too shabby, eh? Look at some of the hot tamales that were knocking about in the 1920’s and get your hands on (or in) some of them today!
Hello sailor. What a beauty, jade, one of the most stunning colors to wear no matter what your preferred color palette is. Jade matches EVERYONE. Beautiful. You can find this pretty little thing here.
My all-time go to color though has to be BLACK (hence the name!) and this ring (https://www.etsy.com/listing/172155802/vintage-art-deco-ring-1920s-1930s?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_campaign=Share) does not disappoint my macabre tendencies.
The DECADENCE. The roaring 20’s indeed. Man, did they have style. Amazing piece of kit to add to your vintage collection.
But, just for you, I have saved the best for last (https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/266426481/vintage-art-deco-ring-sterling-silver?ref=market) …the ring amongst rings, the mother-ring, if you will…
Holy manoley…this renders me speechless (not an easy feat, let me tell you). Buy and wear this ring and you will make new friends instantly…people will want to breathe in some of your fashion vintage savviness. It is the ultimate doffed cap to our favourite fashion era.
Now these rings will perk up any type of look. But, would look especially stunning when coupled with some of the beautiful dresses on thedecohaus.com, or even with the scarf coat of dreams… https://thedecohaus.com/collections/all/products/the-1930s-art-deco-scarf-coat-black-gold-deco-rose?variant=30957210307
That’s true vintage style right there folks!
Till next time…

]]>Have you ever wondered what vintage fashion shows were like? We see modern couture shows and designer collections almost daily, but rarely get a peek at how couture clothing was shown in the past. Occasionally, designers produce runway shows with a vintage theme, but we don't see them often! As we were sitting in the studio and talking to Gail (one of our contributors) she said "When I was in the UK, I was fortunate enough to see a few vintage-themed fashion shows. Most of the events were hosted at a bar with a small intimate group including vintage/retro bloggers and friends."
